A new collection of pictures Sounds of Two Eyes Opening shines a light on music producer-turned-photographer Spot’s work that captured the evolution of a different California: the California of post-punk and skater prototypes and awkward looking beach babes. The birth of hardcore is documented via shots of early concerts by Black Flag and The Minutemen. The total effect is one of understated revelation.

The book is edited by counter-cultural raconteur and Boo-Hooray founder Johan Kugelberg, who also provides a poignant Thanksgiving message for NOWNESS, Thank You America.
